My Day - June 26, 2012

So I'm here with my follow up doctors appointment. It went GREAT! My blood pressure is now on the upper end of normal, which is "safer" than where it was.. GO ME! It means that everything I am doing is definitely paying off :D He wants to see me again in a month to make sure it is still down, and if so, I will be ok! As long as I keep doing what I'm doing :) He almost seemed surprised that the scales showed a loss (although not as much as I HAD lost).. which was satisfying lol

Anyway, as far as working out today goes, I have done only one treadmill "run". I walked for 30 minutes, burned off 222 calories and walked a total of 2.95 kilometres. I was contemplating a second one, but to be honest, my legs are stiff and tired, and I just don't want to push myself to the point where I can't do it. So I think I need to be a little easier on myself until my body gets used to being pushed more and more.. I haven't exercised in SUCH a long time, so it's going to take a while. I will just play it by ear, and push myself further every now and then, just to see how I cope.

And as a reward for my success, I bought myself some workout clothes! No, I didn't have any.. I have been power walking in my pajama pants LOL The only problem with the pants I got, is that they don't have a pocket, so I have to tuck my iPhone into the band, and it keeps falling into my pants! So I have to rectify that problem, somehow!

So I just thought I'd share how all of it went, and to say I'm pleased is an understatement :D

I'll check in tomorrow with more!

My day - June 26, 2012

It's been a fairly uneventful day today, and I'm having a low day as far as self esteem goes.

Anyway.

I managed to get on the treadmill once today. I did my longest walk yet. I walked 4.95 kilometres, burned off 353 calories, and walked for a total of 52 minutes, at a higher pace. I am starting to see results finally, as I am now down nearly 4 kilograms from my beginning weight 4 weeks ago.

I go for my follow up appointment tomorrow morning, so here is hoping all my hard work and newfound dedication pays off, and I won't need any medication. Pray that my blood pressure is down to normal, PLEASE! I guess in the long run, whether it is down, or still up, I am doing the right thing anyway. I just need to keep reminding myself.

I've read about the endorphin addiction, and I think it's hitting me.. is that a good thing or a bad thing? I sometimes dread the thought of yet another walk, but then I perk up at the thought of the endorphin rush at the end. It really is amazing. It lifts your spirits, makes you so darn happy for a while afterwards. But then you come down from it, and ughh LOL It makes you want to go for another walk to get that happy feeling. At least it's not drugs, right? I don't do drugs. Drugs are bad, hmmkay??

Anyway, I will update tomorrow with what happened at the doctors, and with my exercise for the day. Thank you if you are reading.. It means the world to me xo

My day - 25th June, 2012

Hi people! :)

So, I didn't get to make it to the doctors today :( Yesterday my car stopped working, and today I ran around finding a good price on a new battery for it. Thank god that was all was wrong with it! We have to head to the bank on Wednesday morning, so I will go see my doctor then! :)

Today went well.. aside from all the running around, I got one treadmill session in :) Because I only got one done, instead of two, I made it longer than before. I took a picture, but it was kind of blurry, so I won't add it here :( I ended up doing almost 48 minutes, burned off 222 calories and walked 4.3 kilometres. Not a bad effort if I do say so myself! I've started listening to the music on my iPhone and I found tonight that it really helped push me through the lactic acid burn in the calves, and kept me motivated. Now, don't judge me, but I have found my ultimate treadmill song. Nicki Minaj's new song, Starships. Listen to it, and/or walk to it, and you'll see what I mean!

Today's eating wasn't so good, as far as amount goes. I managed two coffees before lunch, then at about 2pm I ate two bananas, which upset my tummy (darn that IBS anyway). And then ate some mac and cheese for dinner. I need to work on fitting breakfast in there of a morning.. being winter, porridge is one of my favourite breakfasts.. Uncle Toby's has a yummy cafe selection out, and my favourite is the Blueberry Bake.. SO GOOD! My 6 year old son fights me for it! LOL

So my plan for tomorrow is to eat 4 smaller meals over the day, instead of being lucky enough to get one in. I'm bad, I know.

The scales were down again this morning! I have a really bad habit of weighing myself every morning, just hoping to see the numbers going down down down. Some mornings I hate the scales, but today it was good hehe.. I'm down another 300g from yesterday! I'm going to try to resist weighing myself in the morning, but I know I just won't be able to help myself hehe....

Catch you all tomorrow xo

Daily update, June 24, 2012

Ok, so I have worked out on the treadmill twice today. Once at 1pm, where I did 40 minutes, walked 3.6 kilometres and burned off 187 calories :D

I've just hopped off the treadmill for my second "run" and here is the pic of my result.

So I'm quite pleased with myself!! I have eaten well, and walked quite a distance today, without even leaving the comfort of my own loungeroom ;)

Stay tuned for tomorrow's update :)

4 weeks into my weight loss journey

I'm on a weight loss journey. It's not going to be easy, but I know it is achievable.

It started in earnest 4 weeks ago when, on a visit to the doctors, my blood pressure was high. For the third time. My doctor gave me 4 weeks to cut down the salt in my diet (I'm a saltaholic), and to start exercising. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow morning, and if all my efforts have had no effect, I will need to begin taking medication to control my blood pressure. Fingers crossed for me please!

We "inherited" a treadmill from my in-laws, and I started walking on it once every two days. I cut right back on my salt intake, to the point where I was getting paranoid about what I was eating, in case it contained too much sodium! I have since relaxed a little on that, and am enjoying eating healthier. There are times I slip and eat junk, but it's not every single day.

Since that doctors appointment 4 weeks ago, I have lost just over 2 kilograms (around 5lb), and this morning I woke up more determined than ever to shed the excess weight and get healthy for life. I wanted to start this blog to record my progress, and be able to look back at how far I have come in my journey :)

A little about me. I am a stay at home mum of 4 wonderful children, ranging in age from 20 down to 6. I will be hitting the big 40 at the end of this year, and that is another motivation to rid myself of the excess weight, so I can rock my birthday in style :) I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis (an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland), and now recently diagnosed with high blood pressure.

This is one of the most recent photo's of me at my heaviest. I know it won't give the best idea of my size, but it will do for now :)

I will be adding weekly photos as I progress through this, and hopefully it will give me more inspiration and determination.

Thanks for reading! xo
